Guide to Connecting 140W Solar Panels

Guide to Connecting 140W Solar Panels

Introduction:

This guide is tailored to assist you in properly setting up TraffiCalm's 140 Watt solar panels, which are designed for diverse applications. Due to the complexity of the solar panel junction box, which may include unnecessary or confusing connection terminals, it's crucial to make the correct connections to avoid operational issues.

Correct Connection Guidance:

  • Locating Connection Points: Refer to the provided image that shows the optimal connection points. The silver stripe on the diodes at the top of the housing can serve as a useful orientation guide.
  • Voltage and Polarity Checks: Use a multimeter to test the voltage across the red and black wires. A correctly connected panel should consistently output more than 14V, even in obscured sunlight. This test will also confirm if the polarity is correct.

Adaptability and Precautions:

  • Variable Product Design: Be aware that design changes may occur without prior notice from our supplier. This may result in some discrepancies between this document and the actual product form. Always use a multimeter to verify connections as recommended.
  • Risks of Incorrect Connection:
    • If the total panel voltage output is less than 12V in sunlight, or
    • If the voltage polarity tests negative,
  • then the system will not properly charge the connected batteries, leading to a potential system failure within a week to a month depending on battery capacity.

This guide aims to provide all necessary information to ensure successful setup and maintenance of your 140 Watt solar panel, ensuring efficient operation and longevity of your traffic management systems.
