This guide provides detailed instructions for creating and integrating custom audio for INX push buttons using the Polara Field Service App. Follow these steps to ensure your custom audio files are correctly prepared and uploaded to your INX push buttons.

Required Software and Devices

  • Windows PC with internet connection
  • iPhone, Android phone, or tablet with Bluetooth and cellular/Wi-Fi capabilities
  • Polara Intelligent Configuration Utility (for converting sound files to .OGG)
  • Text to Speech tool (https://freetools.textmagic.com/text-to-speech)
  • Polara Field Service App
  • Email account capable of downloading converted sound files to your phone or tablet

Device Compatibility

Ensure your device runs iOS version 9.0 or higher (for iOS devices) or Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher (for Android devices).

Installation of the Polara FS App

Install the Polara FS App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. For detailed installation instructions, visit Polara’s website at www.polara.com.

Bluetooth Connection

Connect your phone or tablet to the INX push button via Bluetooth through the Polara FS App.

Settings of the App

  • The settings page contains adjustable INX parameters.
  • Changes made are highlighted with a white background.
  • Tap “Write” to save settings to the connected device.
  • On iOS devices, enable “Write Changes Only” for red background highlighting (Android).

Firmware Update

  • The Polara FS App includes the latest firmware files.
  • To verify the bundled firmware and view changes, check for updates:
    • On iOS: Tap the three dots, then select “Check For Updates” in the File Browser.
    • On Android: In the flyout menu, choose “Check For Updates” in the File Manager.
  • Download available firmware updates and proceed with the connection to perform the update.
  • Connect to the PBS and tap “Firmware Update” from the Home page.
  • Select the desired firmware file (newest bundled file or other valid files).
  • Confirm the selection and start the firmware download.
  • Once completed, the PBS will reboot with the updated firmware.

Accessing the Audio Library

  1. Create User Account:
    • Tap the User Profile icon in the bottom right corner of the app to open the menu.
    • Tap Create Account and enter a name, email address, and password.
    • Verify your email to complete the account creation.
  2. Search for Audio Files:
    • Tap on the Audio Library option in the main menu.
    • Enter the name of the audio to search for and tap Search.
    • Tap on the play icon to hear the audio file.
    • Tap on the download button to import the file into the app.
  3. Connection Requirement:
    • A connection to the internet is required to create a user account and search for audio messages.

Uploading Custom Audio Files

  1. Connect to PBS:
    • From the Home page, tap “Audio Update”.
  2. Upload Custom Audio:
    • Select the location (Alternate 1 or Alternate 2) to upload your custom audio file.
    • Tap the .OGG file you wish to upload from the File Browser.
    • Tap Select File to confirm, and the upload process will begin immediately.
  3. Restore Factory Default:
    • Tap the three dots (ellipsis) in the upper right corner of the screen to open the menu.
    • Select Reset Audio To Default and confirm. This will overwrite any custom messages that have been uploaded and return the audio files to factory default.

Configuring Speech Message Settings

  1. Select Audio File:
    • Connect to the PBS and tap “Settings”.
    • Navigate to “Speech Message Settings” and tap.
    • Select Alternative 1 or 2, depending on your custom audio file.
  2. Choose Audio Behavior:
    • None: No audio plays while the lights are flashing.
    • Standard: “Warning lights are flashing.”
    • Alternate 1: "Wait for traffic to stop, then cross with caution."
    • Alternate 2: "Cross street with caution. Vehicles may not stop.”
  3. Save Configuration:
    • Tap “Write” to send the configuration to the push button.

Creating a Custom Audio File

  1. Create Audio Clip:

    • Download and install the Polara Intelligent Configuration Utility from Polara's website.
    • Open the utility, select “Convert Audio”, and convert your .MP3 or .WAV file to .OGG.
  3. Transfer .OGG Files:
    • Email the file to an account on your iOS device and tap the file, then choose Open in Polara FS.
    • Store the file in a cloud-based storage utility and use the iOS “Files” app to copy the files into the Polara FS audio directory.
    • Download the .OGG file from the Polara website into the iOS Downloads directory and import it using the Files app.

Selecting the Custom Sound File

  1. Download Custom Sound File:
    • After downloading the custom sound file to the Polara app, follow the instructions to apply it to the push button.
  2. Verify Custom Audio:
    • Press the cross button to ensure the audio sounds correct and is working properly.
