High Water Warning Setup Guide

Installing a High Water Warning System
Overview

The TraffiCalm High Water Warning System is designed to detect water over roadways, triggering flashing LED signs in real-time. This system warns the public to avoid flooded roads, potentially saving lives and resources during weather emergencies.

Step 1: Planning

  1. Sensor Placement: Ensure the sensor’s metallic buttons are positioned at the height that would pose a hazard to drivers.

  2. Cable Routing: Plan the cable routing to ensure it reaches the Controller or Collaborator cabinet without obstruction.

Step 2: Mounting

  1. Mounting Options: The Detector provides multiple mounting options:

    • Back of a Sign: Use the supplied extended 3/8” bolts, washers, and nuts to secure both the plate and sign to the pole.

    • Post or Pole: Utilize the included bracket for mounting to a Telespar-style post.

    • Pedestal Base: Secure the Detector using through holes in the housing and supplied hardware.

Ensure No Contact with Metal: Do not allow the metallic buttons to contact metal surfaces.

Step 3: Connection

  1. Wiring: The detector has two wires within its rugged, outdoor-rated cable harness. Refer to the wiring diagram in the user manual for detailed instructions on connecting to INPUT 2.

  2. Pre-Power Connection: Connect the detector before powering on the system to unlock its configuration settings in the user interface.

Setup and Configuration

  1. Access System Interface:

    • Open Network Settings on your WiFi enabled device.

    • Connect to the flashing sign system's controller via Wi-Fi.

    • Open a web browser and navigate to setup.trafficalm.com.

  2. Login:

    • Use the following credentials:

      • Username: admin

      • Password: Tr@ffiCalm

    • Contact customer support if you haven’t received these credentials or are experiencing login issues.

  3. Setup:

    • Welcome Page: Upon logging in, you will land on the welcome page where you can download the software manual or installation manual if needed.

    • Select High Water Detection: Choose the 'High Water Detection' option and click 'Save and Continue.'

    • Naming Your System: Provide a meaningful name for your system (e.g., "Highway 90 Flood Detector").

    • Sensor Attachment: Confirm if the water sensor is attached to the Controller. Select 'Yes' if the sensor is directly attached to the Controller; otherwise, select 'No' if it's attached to a Collaborator.

    • Brightness Settings: Default settings are usually sufficient. Click 'Save and Continue.'

    • Flasher Settings: Set the minimum water level required to flash. Default is typically '1'. Set the flash rate to 60 flashes per minute and use unison output for standard flash rings.

  4. Collaborator Setup (if applicable):

    • If using a Collaborator, add its ID in the system settings.

    • Configure the Collaborator to flash in unison with the main Controller when the sensor is triggered.

Testing

  1. Simulated Water Test: Use water with some dirt content to simulate real-world conditions. Distilled or bottled water might be too pure to trigger the sensor.

  2. Verification: Ensure the system responds correctly to water presence by observing the flashing signs and sensor indicators.
