Installation Guide for PedSafety Guardian Push Buttons

Installation Guide for PedSafety Guardian Push Buttons

Overview

The Guardian Push Button is engineered for optimal functionality in pedestrian signaling systems. It features robust components designed for reliable operation in urban environments. This guide outlines the steps to properly install the Guardian Push Button on a pole, ensuring compliance with standard height and positioning requirements.

Preparation and Mounting

  1. Drilling and Tapping the Pole:

    • Use the Guardian Base Station Mounting Template to mark the required holes on the pole.
    • Drill and tap two holes for 1/4-20 screws—one 2” above and another 8 1/2” above the center of the proposed Push Button Station (PBS) position.
    • Drill a 1” through hole for cable routing, positioned 2 1/4” to 5 1/2” below the lower mounting hole.
  2. Mounting the Pedestrian Station:

    • Route a four-conductor cable through the 1” hole and up into the pedestrian signal head for connection.
    • Insert the cable and any field terminal wires through the wire chase at the bottom of the station.
    • Secure the station to the pole using the provided 1/4-20 bolts and washers.

Wiring and Connections

  1. Connecting Wires:

    • Attach the four wires from the control unit to the designated terminals on the PBS as outlined in the manual.
    • If additional field terminal wires are present, connect them as specified in the installation manual.
    • Secure all connections and close the protective terminal door.
  2. Attaching Additional Components:

    • Install any adapter plates or signs using the provided hardware, ensuring all components are tightly secured.

Post-Installation Checks

  1. Operational Testing:

    • Ensure the PBS is securely mounted with the arrow correctly pointing towards the crosswalk.
    • Power up the station and listen for the audible locator tone, verifying it is clearly audible from 6-12 feet away.
    • Test the push button functionality, checking for visual and audio confirmations.
    • For Guardian Wave units, ensure the sensor responds correctly to hand waves and transmits signals as expected.
  2. Final Verifications:

    • Conduct a full operational cycle check to ensure all features and options of the Guardian operate as intended.
    • Adjust settings such as audio messages, volumes, and sensor configurations using the PedConnex® Utility, accessible via download.

Additional Notes

  • For installations requiring height adjustments or alternate mounting methods (such as on wooden posts), adapt the mounting approach accordingly.
  • Ensure all electronic and mechanical installations adhere to local codes and regulations to maintain system integrity and safety.
