Installation Guide for Polara iNX Push Button

Overview
The Polara iNX/iDX Push Button Station is designed for easy integration with pedestrian crossing systems, enhancing accessibility with features like an audible direction indicator and customizable settings. This modular device consists of several components including a backplate, electronics module, speaker module, and various mounting accessories.

Unpacking and Preparation

  • Remove Packaging: Begin by removing the unit from its packaging. The device ships with a partial assembly to protect it during transport.
  • Check Components: Ensure all components, including the backplate, electronics and speaker modules, arrow button diaphragm, button cover, and sign, are accounted for and undamaged.

Mounting Procedure

  1. Preparing the Backplate

    • Remove the three screws from the lower cover to access the installation area.
    • Detach the sign and backplate if attached, and remove the EARTH ground screw for reinstallation later.
  2. Positioning

    • Align the backplate on the pole at the recommended height of 42 inches, ensuring the arrow on the PBS module points towards the end of the crosswalk across the street.
    • Mark and prepare mounting bolt locations; drill and tap ¼-20 bolt holes as needed.
  3. Routing and Connecting Wires

    • Route a 6-wire cable from the flashing sign system to the PBS. Leave 3-4 inches of wire at the bottom of the backplate for connections.
    • Connect the wires to the PBS’ terminal blocks according to the labeled terminals for LIGHTS, BUTTON, PWR, and GND.

Final Assembly

  1. Reassemble Modules: Place the electronics and speaker modules back onto the backplate and secure them.
  2. Attach and Secure the Sign: Reattach the sign and sign backplate, ensuring the module is securely positioned.
  3. Reconnect Ground Screw: Reinstall the EARTH ground screw between the terminal blocks to ensure proper grounding.
  4. Test Operation: With the power on, verify that the PBS is operational and all connections are secure.
  5. Close the Unit: Reinstall the lower cover to protect the internals from the elements.

Additional Notes:

  • If mounting to a wooden post or different substrate, additional suitable hardware such as lag bolts may be necessary.
  • For installations requiring an external button, connect it to the large terminal block labeled “BUTTON.” Polarity does not matter for this connection.
