Power Maintenance Guide - CTLE & CTLA

Power Maintenance Guide - CTLE & CTLA

Overview

This guide is designed to assist you in identifying and resolving power-related issues with the side-of-pole mounted E-Box. The E-Box can be configured for either Solar or A/C power. Note that our circuit boards require DC power; therefore, A/C powered units include a converter within the E-Box to ensure compatibility.

Applicable Models

This troubleshooting guide addresses power issues related specifically to E-Box controllers and collaborators. It applies to the following TraffiCalm devices involved in these setups:
  1. M75-SA300-CTLE
  2. M75-SA300-CLBE
  3. M75-SA300-CTLA
  4. M75-SA300-CLBA
  5. M75-SA30M-BSCA
  6. M75-DE0TS-CTLE
  7. M75-DE0TS-CTLA

Tools Needed

  1. Multimeter or voltmeter
  1. Screwdriver (Phillips-head)

Checking and Replacing Fuses

Blade Fuse (5 amp)

  • Location: Located on the electronics tray inside the E-box cabinet.
  • Action: Check and replace if necessary with a standard 5 amp blade fuse.

Battery and Solar Voltage Checks

Battery Voltage Levels

  • Normal Range: 12.4 - 14.2V DC.
  • Low Voltage Threshold: Below 10.4V may prevent system recovery without recharging to at least 12.4V.
  • To test individual batteries, disconnect one wire from the battery terminal and use a voltmeter to measure. This prevents the combined voltage from affecting the reading.

Solar Panel Output

  • Expected Output: 17-21V on sunny days; above 14V even on cloudy days.
  • Connection Check: Ensure the positive and negative are correctly connected. A negative reading indicates reversed connections.

AC Adapter Output

  • Expected Output: 13.6V
  • Applies to A/C converted units only.

Battery Access and Replacement

Accessing the Battery

  • To access the battery, open the fiberglass enclosure of the E-Box. The battery is located inside the cabinet.

For Generation 3 (Gen3) Models

  1. Removing the Battery:
    • The battery is secured with three bolts on the bracket. Unscrew these bolts to release the bracket.
    • Gently tilt the battery to disconnect the positive and negative terminals.
  2. Installing the Battery:
    • Place the new battery into the compartment ensuring correct orientation.
    • Attach the positive and negative terminals securely.
    • Reposition the bracket over the battery and fasten it with the three bolts.

For Generation 4 (Gen4) Models

  1. Removing the Battery:
    • The battery is secured by a retention strap. Loosen this strap and set it aside.
    • Lift the battery carefully and disconnect the positive and negative terminals.
  2. Installing the Battery:
    • Insert the new battery into the compartment, making sure it is upright.
    • Connect the positive and negative terminals.
    • Secure the battery by refastening the retention strap.

Final Checks

After replacing any parts or making adjustments:

  • Ensure all connections are secure.
  • Power on the system to check operational status.
  • Monitor the system for any irregularities during initial reactivation.
