How to Remove and Replace the Battery in a 12" Portable DFB (Radar Speed Sign)

Overview

This guide provides detailed instructions for safely removing and replacing the battery in a 12" portable Driver Feedback Board (DFB). It is intended for specific models equipped with removable batteries and does not apply to non-portable models.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have the following models and components before starting:

  • 12" Portable DFB: Models M75-12DFB-PK0X or M75-12DFB-P00X
  • 12" Portable SE: Model M75-I12SE-PK0X
  • Removable Battery: Part number 042-02115-0000

Note: This procedure is not applicable to non-portable models, as they do not have a battery.

Instructions

Step 1: Remove Sign from Bracket

  • Remove the top and bottom bolts that secure the sign to the pole-side bracket. (See attached image)

Step 2: Detach the Side Bracket

  • Unscrew the four torx bit bolts that hold the sign side bracket to the sign assembly. (See attached image)

Step 3: Access the Battery Cover

  • Remove the 16 screws along with the washers and lock washers that secure the battery cover to the sign assembly. Be sure to carefully set aside all removed components to avoid losing any hardware. (See attached image)

Step 4: Remove the Battery

  • Gently tilt and slide out the battery (Part Number 042-02115-0000) from the sign assembly. (See attached image)

Step 5: Disconnect the Power

  • Disconnect the power connector from the sign and carefully pull the battery out of the sign. (See attached image)

Reinstallation Tips

To install a new battery or reinstall the existing one after maintenance:

  1. Reverse the Removal Steps: Follow the removal steps in reverse, starting from reconnecting the power connector to the battery and sliding it back into the sign assembly.
  2. Secure the Battery Cover: Replace and tighten the 16 screws, washers, and lock washers to secure the battery cover.
  3. Reattach the Side Bracket: Screw in the four torx bit bolts to reattach the side bracket to the sign assembly.
  4. Mount the Sign: Reattach the sign to the pole-side bracket using the top and bottom bolts.

Conclusion

Make sure to reuse all original equipment manufacturer (OEM) hardware during the reinstallation to ensure a proper seal and optimal operation of the 12" portable DFB. These steps will help maintain the functionality and safety of your device. For any further guidance or troubleshooting, refer to the device manual or contact technical support.
