Synchronizing Duty Cycles: Aligning GEN 4 Flasher Operations with GEN 3 Models

Overview

This section of the manual details the instructions for adjusting the duty cycle of GEN 3 and GEN 4 flashing sign systems. Adjusting the duty cycle is crucial for managing the flash time and conserving battery power effectively.

Understanding Duty Cycles

  • GEN 4 Systems: By default, the GEN 4 systems have a duty cycle set at 20% to conserve battery power.
  • GEN 3 Systems: These systems come with a duty cycle of 50%.

Firmware Identification

  • GEN 4 Firmware: The firmware codes for GEN 4 systems are in the 400 series.
  • GEN 3 Firmware: The firmware codes for GEN 3 systems are in the 300 series.

Adjusting GEN 4 Systems to Match GEN 3

If your setup includes both GEN 3 and GEN 4 units, and you need uniformity in flash time, you may want to increase the duty cycle of the GEN 4 units to match that of the GEN 3 units. Follow these steps to adjust the duty cycle:

  1. Identify Program Header Pins:

    • Locate the program header on the GEN 4 unit.  See attached image to help you locate the Firmware (yellow) and Program Header (green).
  2. Modify Duty Cycle:

    • To change the GEN 4's duty cycle from 20% to 50%, connect a jumper wire between pins 2 and 4 on the Program Header.
  3. Power Cycling the Board:

    • Disconnect the power connector labeled 'BATT SOLAR' for 10 seconds.
    • Reconnect it to the board to reset the system with the new settings.
  4. Securing the Changes:

    • Leave the jumper wire in place on pins 2 and 4 to maintain the 50% duty cycle.

Conclusion

Following these guidelines will ensure that your GEN 4 flashing sign systems operate with a duty cycle that matches that of GEN 3 systems, ensuring consistency across your installations. For further assistance, refer to the detailed diagrams and images provided in the manual or contact technical support.
