CTL2/CTL3 Controller Setup Guide

CTL2/CTL3 Controller Setup Guide

Overview
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing CTL2 and CTL3 models, which are Solar Engine-Integrated Controllers or Collaborators. These systems are designed for easy mounting to poles or existing infrastructure, featuring an integrated solar panel for optimal charging. This guide will help ensure proper installation and setup for effective operation.

Understanding CTL2/CTL3 Models

To ensure proper installation, it's important to understand the differences between the various model numbers:

  • CTL2: Indicates a 20-watt system.
  • CTL3: Indicates a 30-watt system.
  • BSC: Stands for "Basic" models, available in 20-watt (BSC2) and 30-watt (BSC3) versions. These systems are standalone units for single flashing signs that do not require communication with a collaborator or specialized programming and scheduling.

 Applicable Models

  1. M75-SA300-CTL2
  2. M75-SA300-CTL3
  3. M75-SA30M-CTL2
  4. M75-SA30M-CTL3
  5. M75-SA300-CLB2
  6. M75-SA300-CLB3
  7. M75-SA30M-CLB2
  8. M75-SA30M-CLB3
  9. M75-SA300-BSC2
  10. M75-SA300-BS3
  11. M75-SA30M-BSC2
  12. M75-SA30M-BS3

Preparing for Installation

Mounting the Assembly

  1. Integrated Mounting Bracket: The device comes with an integrated mounting bracket suitable for both round posts (using banding) and square posts (using bolts drilled on 1” centers, e.g., Telespar).

  2. Positioning: Mount the device at the topmost part of the post to maximize solar exposure. Allow 4–6 inches of post above any sign to prevent shadowing at midday if using the standard bracket.

  3. Optional Kits: Optional top-of-post kits are available to accommodate various installation requirements.

Orienting the Solar Panel

  1. Solar Panel Direction: Aim the solar panel south-facing to ensure optimal charging. If true south-facing cannot be achieved, mount facing as near as possible to true south.

  2. Adjusting Solar Panel Angle: Loosen bolts on the side of the standard bracket and decline the solar panel to be 15⁰ + installation latitude below the zero axis. Tighten the bolts to secure the solar panel in place. Additional declination can be added to prevent snow buildup.

Securing the Assembly

  1. Affixing to the Post: Secure the assembly to the post using (2) 3/8” bolts or banding.

The integrated mounting bracket can be bolted to square poles or banded to round poles.

Use the included brackets from the TraffiCalm Shipkit for mounting with banding.

Installing Batteries and Making Connections

Installing Batteries

  1. Battery Installation: Install up to 4 batteries into the CTL, CLB, or BSC cabinet. Connect the batteries to the integrated harness, ensuring the red wire is connected to the 12V positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal.

Device Connections

  1. Connecting Devices: Refer to the wiring diagrams and power maintenance links for detailed instructions on connecting the devices to the controller or collaborator.
