Push 2 Cross Setup Guide

Push-2-Cross Pedestrian Safety System Setup Guide

Overview

This setup guide provides instructions for the initial installation and configuration of the Push-2-Cross pedestrian safety system. Please ensure to review all notes before beginning the installation.

Key Components:

  • Controller: The primary unit with a blue label that operates as the hub of the Push-2-Cross system network.
  • Collaborator: A secondary unit with a red label, it ensures synchronized flashing by communicating with the Controller.
  • RRFB (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon): A critical component for pedestrian crosswalk notification, adhering to industry standards.
  • Push-Button: Activated by pedestrians, these buttons trigger the flashing sequence in the system.

Important Installation Note: Mounting considerations are crucial for the successful installation of the Push-2-Cross system. TraffiCalm does not specify mounting infrastructure; therefore, consultation with a local engineer is highly recommended to ensure the mounting solution can support the additional weight and surface area of the system components. Additionally, consider local weather conditions to select an appropriate and durable mounting method.

Assembly Overview

Push-2-Cross System Components

  1. Controller with Solar Panel: Available with 20W or 30W solar panels. Options include side-of-pole mounting and A/C configurations.
  2. Pedestrian Crossing Sign: Indicates crossing zones with optional Flashing LED Ring for enhanced visibility. Commonly uses sign codes W11-2 or S1-1.
  3. RRFB (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon): Flashes at industry-standard rates to enhance crosswalk visibility.
  4. Crosswalk Diagonal Arrow Sign: Displays direction of pedestrian crossing with sign number W16-7P.
  5. ADA Compliant Push Button: Available in touch-free and audible versions, designed to meet ADA standards.

Applies to Models: M75-SA328-0000, M75-SA328-0004, M75-SA328-5000, M75-SA328-R000

What's in the Box:
  • 1 x RRFB Assembly
  • 1 x Universal Mounting Bracket
  • 2 x Star Washers (to lock rotation)
  • 2 x Bolts (to secure the assembly to the bracket)

Installation Steps

  1. Mount the Bracket: Secure the universal mounting bracket to the pole. The bracket supports banding or bolting. For bolting, holes are drilled on 1” centers suitable for Telespar-type posts. Banding materials are not supplied.
  2. Attach the RRFB: Using the provided top and bottom bolts, loosely attach the RRFB assembly to the bracket. Place the star washers between the assembly and the bracket to prevent rotation.
  3. Aim the RRFB: Adjust the RRFB to ensure it faces oncoming traffic for optimal visibility. Lateral adjustments may be necessary.

  4. Secure the RRFB: Once properly aimed, fully tighten the RRFB to the bracket using the recommended torque of 30 in/lbs for the mounting bolts.

  5. Connect the RRFB: Utilize the special wiring harness provided with the RRFB for connection. First, disconnect the green connector from the output terminals of your Controller or Collaborator. Replace it with the RRFB harness. Connect all RRFBs and any flashing rings to the orange-tabbed connectors.

  • Ped-Safety Guardian APS
  • Ped-Safety Guardian Wave
  • Polara INX
  • Polara IDX
  • Polara Bulldog

Each model has unique installation requirements, and detailed supplier installation guides are provided with each purchase.

Basic Installation Steps

  1. Preparation: Consult local governance, ADA guidelines, and MUTCD regulations to ensure proper placement of the push button on the pole.
  2. Mounting Frame: All button types come with a mounting frame that needs to be installed on the post first. This frame may include adapters to fit various mounting surfaces.
  3. Wiring Setup: It is advisable to route the cable harness before mounting the frame to ease the wiring process.
  4. Button Installation: With the frame secured and the wiring in place, connect the wires to the button. Each button type has specific wiring terminations. Refer to the our wiring diagrams correct connections.

Note: Audible buttons may require additional power. If retrofitting an existing controller or collaborator, contact TraffiCalm Customer Support to verify compatibility.
